Lake Dallas ISD's athletic training program provides support for student-athletes at the secondary level. Athletic trainers will be on site for injury treatment and evaluations before and after school. Athletes are encouraged to make an appointment for new/nagging injuries as soon as possible. All acute, “real-time” injuries will be seen the day of and students/parents will be provided with follow-up instructions.

Student Athletic Training Program

The student athletic training (SAT) program is designed for the SATs to assist Licensed/Certified Athletic Trainers in providing quality care to Lake Dallas Student-Athletes. This opportunity allows the SATs to gain knowledge and hands-on experience in the field of sports medicine. After classes and training, the SATs act as an extension of the Staff Athletic Trainers and may provide first responder coverage to his/her assigned team. Students in the program will learn time management, basic taping skills, emergency action planning, CPR/AED certification, First aid, basic splinting, crutch fitting, medical terminology, medical abbreviations, and much more! If your student is interested in medicine, enjoys a team atmosphere, and/or wants to meet more people and get involved, then the student athletic training program could be a great fit!

If you or your student is interested in the program, please explore the links below for more information. We formally accept applications in the spring for the following school year. However, we are always open to interested students. Just contact one of our Athletic Trainers and they will make sure you get taken care of. Go Falcons!

Concussion Management

To comply with Texas State Legislature House Bill 2038 (Chapter 38. Sub Chapter D of the Texas Education Code (TEC)) and related UIL mandates, Lake Dallas ISD has implemented this concussion management plan.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that there are approximately 300,000 cases of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI) or concussions annually in the United States as the result of participation in sports. The Sports Concussion Institute estimates that 10 percent of athletes in contact sports suffer a concussion during a season. A 2006 report estimated that there were 92,000 cases of concussions in American high school sports annually, and that these rates seem to be increasing. Also of concern is the risk of repeated concussions and Second Impact Syndrome to our young athletes. These two problems can have long lasting, and even terminal effects, on the individual. In order to have a standard method of managing concussions to Lake Dallas ISD athletes, the following guidelines are intended to serve as a written protocol for concussion management.

Student Accident Insurance

We are pleased to announce that Lake Dallas ISD has contracted with Student Insurance Plans to administer the student accident insurance program.

The Lake Dallas Independent School District provides a supplemental student accident insurance plan to 7-12 grade students participating in UIL/Athletic activities. Accidents occurring during scheduled practice sessions, games, tournaments, events at other schools, and/or travel to and from activities are covered under this plan.

Please note that Lake Dallas ISD staff are not permitted to file claims on behalf of any student. Parents and/or guardians are solely responsible for filing their own claims and working directly with the insurance carriers.
